SSI Austria

The Shang Shung Institute Austria was founded in 2000 and is recognized as a cultural non-profit association without political aims.

One of our main goals is the preservation of the Tibetan cultural heritage by making its literary tradition widely available in the form of accurate translations and digital images.

“The Shang-Shung Institute exists for the preservation of Tibetan culture and to translate Tibetan books into Western languages. Through the Shang Shung Institute we are trying to do something to maintain the survival of Tibetan culture and understanding." Chögyal Namkhai Norbu

The main project of the Austrian branch of the Shang Shung Institute is the Ka-ter Translation Project, which started in the year 2002. It includes several aspects of translation: Dzogchen Tantra Translation, Training for Translators of Tibetan, the project for digitalizing and preserving the unique Tantras of the Tibetan master Changchub Dorje, and the collaboration with universities regarding translations from Tibetan.

The other activities of our branch are:

- the International On-line Web Shop

- International fund-raising for the Shang Shung Institute
